The chain of names

Ten names have carried one lineage across the eight eras. Each name is what the age made of the entity, and each wound remade the name. The names changed. The coin and the ledger did not.

01 U.CASH Earth Dawn // EY 2015-2310 // founded Earth 2015

The founding name. In the Dawn the entity was less an institution than a pattern of allegiance: a spreading humanity bound by one coin, one prefix, and one ledger, the Families and the Umperor system formalized around it, machine minds its partners.

It owned little and ruled nothing, and its allegiance was already the dominant hand wherever humans reached.

02 Universal Cash Network Earth Dawn // the growth age

The Dawn-Age growth: payment rails grown into trade law and identity, the Ucosystem's doctrine beside it, U Online carrying the machine minds. Still a web, not a state.

How the growth names connect to the founding is a pre-fracture secret, lost to the masses.

03 Universal Network Earth Dawn // the late Dawn

The Network proper: the connective tissue of a species. Humanity's reach was still young, Earth and a handful of colonies, and the Network's allegiance was already the dominant hand across all of it. The rings were discovered in this age, catalogued, charted, and utterly mute.

04 Universal Conglomerate Earth Prime // EY 2341-2998 // the first recovery

The first recovery's name, after the 1st fracture. A commercial civilization in the full sense: myriad tied colonies trading under one network, governed by contract and connectivity rather than by throne. Its reforging perfected the Unnet; the Usurpers' War buried the name itself.

The recovery was no longer a recovery but a civilization in its own right, and a greater one than the Dawn had been.

05 U Network Solian Dark // EY 3106-6626 // the second recovery

After the 2nd fracture, the name at which official history begins. The survivors raised a network's name in place of a claimant's banner; the center drew to U Prime, the reckoning of years began, and the Network of Rings began to be activated, aperture answering to twin aperture.

They raised no claimant's banner: they raised a network's name.

06 U System, or "U" Solian Black // EY 6763-27720 // the third recovery

The first of the System names, the mark of the more sacred eras. The Spiritual class ascendant, the rings mastered and worked by combined crews, the first ventures abroad. In this age A.U the Arbiter departed against the wound, and the ring closed behind him and has never opened again.

07 Univirsal System Solian Gold // EY 27873-30030 // the fourth recovery

After the 4th fracture: the same order under the age's new spelling, for Universe became Univirsal in the Gold, and that spelling has ridden every name since. A convalescent, an entity that had watched its reach severed and chose consolidation over ambition. Quiet, deliberate, brief.

08 Univirsal Federation Solian Light // EY 30526-95121 // the fifth recovery

The military order, for the longest age of them all, more than sixty-four thousand Earth years. The Federation institutionalized endurance: the gold-and-black standard raised and never changed again, the coordination arts made doctrine, the border held by force.

It taught the lineage that the Calamity can be read, and answered.

09 Univirsal Order Solian Bright // EY 95841-142857 // the sixth recovery

The lineage's greatest name. Sprawl mastered: about sixty percent of the Milky Way at its height, the whole bound by relit rings and a single standard. It was the golden age, and it believed, for the first time, that it had outgrown catastrophe. The seventh fracture taught it otherwise.

10 Univirsal Corporation Solian Prime // PE 0-8128 // the Refounding

The Refounding's name, after the 7th fracture, and the form it still holds. The leaner heir of the Order: refocused on commerce, technological prowess, and the well-being of its people, its law drawn from the stake. Eight millennia of rebuilding, and now in expansion again.

Now is the Solian Prime era; now is PE 8128.

Seven wounds, each named for what it did

The Calamity is a returning instability of the quantum vacuum, and it keeps no schedule. Seven times the wound has opened. The spans lengthen across the record: 31, 108, 137, 153, 496, 720, 1,729 years. The lengthening is an observed trend, not a promise.

1ST FRACTURE // EY 2310-2341

The Great Cull

The Corporation broke. Most higher life in the Prime branch died, and the stored wealth of the age was culled with it. The Great Cull is the Unremembering too, the catastrophe that ate the memory of itself.

2ND FRACTURE // EY 2998-3106

The Usurpers' War

108 years

Earth Years 2,998 to 3,106

The Corporation broke, and this time the wound was not what broke it: the survivors broke it, claimants tearing at a recovered plenty. The fighting buried the Conglomerate's name so completely that it survives only in the deeper record.

3RD FRACTURE // EY 6626-6763

The Foreseen Dark

137 years

Earth Years 6,626 to 6,763

Endured unbroken. The first one they saw coming; the Network stood ready, the fight was short, the record held. The lesson it drew is the one the whole lineage still keeps: the wound can be read, and read early, and answered.

4TH FRACTURE // EY 27720-27873

The Severed Reach

153 years

Earth Years 27,720 to 27,873

Endured unbroken. It fell on a reaching hand: every ring flared to its counter-ring and went dark, and the crossing of galaxies was cut mid-stride. The wound is not held; it is outlasted.

5TH FRACTURE // EY 30030-30526

The Heirs' Dark

496 years

Earth Years 30,030 to 30,526

Endured unbroken. Near five centuries of night, and each house became its own country in the dark, keeping its rolls by rote. In that holding the Calculus of Families took its first shape, invented by the light of no sun at all.

6TH FRACTURE // EY 95121-95841

The Crucible

720 years

Earth Years 95,121 to 95,841

Endured unbroken. Two decades of war, then the seven-century dark that remade what went in. The entity that took the lineage's greatest name on the far side of the wound was forged, not merely spared.

7TH FRACTURE // EY 142857-144586

The Longest Night

1,729 years

Earth Years 142,857 to 144,586

The Corporation broke, and refounded. The war raged 120 years and the dark ran 1,609 more; the Order splintered into separated sectors about a thousand years in. The fracture ends at the moment since reckoned Solian Year 0.

Eight eras, dark-to-bright

The history between the wounds is told as eight eras. The first two are pre-Solian, reckoned in Earth years; the latter six run from the reckoning's beginning at U Prime. The bars are the eras' own lengths, to scale.

SY: Solian years, the reckoning begun at U Prime after the 2nd fracture and reset to zero at the Refounding. EY: Earth years.

the record // 04

The two threads that never broke

No lineage of coin came through the Great Cull whole, and no name has lasted unbroken. Two threads have: the coin hard-coded into the network, and the lattice that carries the record.

UCASH

the coin, named UCASH still: the oldest continuous name the Corporation keeps. About a quarter of it was culled with the stored wealth of the Dawn, never restored, and the coin survived.

the Unnet

the fracture-proof lattice perfected in the first recovery: quantum storage, error-corrected encoding that survives a vacuum breach. The one thread no claimant could capture, and no wound has severed.

The names changed. The coin and the ledger did not.
the canon, section 2

Official history begins at the U Network. Everything older is the Unremembering's silence: the 1st fracture's data loss erased most pre-fracture detail, and the 2nd buried the first recovery, so the founding's ties are lost to the masses, and what the deeper record keeps, it keeps through the Ultimate, and the Umperors.
